Disruptive Innovation

Disruptive Innovation is the evolution of a product or service over time

The change is extremely important because the world is more challenging every day and the traditional education system has not made significant accommodations over the past decades.  We need to live in the present but we must prepare students for the future. Maintaining the current structure (teaching for the test) is not preparing students for what is to come.

Adapt will be the most rational answer but as mentioned by Sir Ken Robinson in his TED Talk  “Bring on the Revolution”  we need a transformation; not try to improve a system that is not working. We need to change the way we address the problem, the norms, and the rules around how we do things.

Disruptive Innovation is the evolution of a product or service over time. It’s a different way to do something faster, better, and cheaper. The importance is significant as it changes how we do many things such as buying groceries, transporting ourselves, and educating the way we teach.

The need of a different structure/approach to teaching this new generation is required, and disruptive innovation is the spark to start planning this change for something that is effective and adapted to our students’ needs. Technology is a tool used in blended learning but is not the only one.

Over the past couple of years, I have been working with a group of students in an Engineering Club and their learning experiences are far way different from what my regular students. I believe there is a way to bring those types of learning experiences to my other students and definitely share with teachers the best practices used in the process, specifically now that all students are in the same LMS for every classroom.
